A TEENAGE sports star has boxed his way into the final of a junior championship.
Chris Smith, 15 from Ongar saw off stiff competition in the semi finals of the competition held in Earlsfield, South London to win a place in the final of the Royal Navy Junior ABA competition.
He said: "It was good. I didn't box as good as I can but I've been training really hard seven days a week. I'm definitely going to win the final."
The final will be held in Liverpool at the end of the month and if Chris wins he will claim the title in the 54kg category at Everton Park Sports Centre.
Former World Featherweight Champion Barry McGuigan said: "The Royal Navy ABA Junior and school boy Championships have spawned a whole host of great boxers over the years, and some of the talented young boys taking part in this year's competition could well be going for gold at London 2012."
