CARD-GIANT Clintons’ decision to place part of its business into administration will have no impact on jobs at its headquarters, The Guardian has been reassured.

Clintons announced today it has placed its entire chain of 223 Birthdays stores into administration potentially placing more than 2,000 jobs at risk.

The headquarters of Clintons is based in Langston Road, Loughton, but assurances have been given that none of the 230 jobs there have been placed at risk by the recent announcement.

Group commercial director Barry Hortog told The Guardian: “There are some jobs at risk [nationwide]. Are all jobs at risk? No.

“Birthdays was a loss-making business ever since we bought it in 2004 and we cannot continue to support that. Birthdays has its own headquarters in Bury. It will have little or no impact.

“If people [at the Loughton headquarters] came to me I would reassure them Birthdays is a separate business from the Clintons business.”

He added that nationwide Clintons would look into the possiblity of buying some of the Birthdays stores back.

Clintons Cards was formed in 1968 by current chairman Don Lewin who opened his first store in Epping. It now has 692 stores nationwide.
