SERVICES on the Victoria Line have resumed after yesterday's (Thursday) strike caused chaos for commuters in Walthamstow.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers' Union (RMT) walked out for 24 hours at 9pm on Wednesday.

The union is demanding safety measures to prevent doors opening on the wrong side, but has also called for sacked train driver Carl Campbell, who was dismissed for allegedly not following safety procedures, to be reinstated.

Howard Collins, London Underground (LU) chief operating officer, blasted the RMT for causing inconvenience for thousands of Londoners.

Boris Johnson, London's Mayor, believed the strike could have been averted through talks.

Travellers in Walthamstow face minor disruption over the bank holiday weekend because there is no service on the entire Victoria Line on Sunday until 9.30am while there is no service on the Barking to Gospel Oak line, which runs through Waltham Forest, on Sunday.
