A MAN from Ilford with cystic fibrosis was named man of the match in a thrilling football game between charity supporters and MPs.
Michael Winehouse, 22, played alongside TV presenter Angus Deayton, athlete Darren Campbell and footballing heroes Gus Poyet and Luther Blissett at the match at Chelsea ground Stamford Bridge on Tuesday (May 19).
The game, organised by charity the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, saw the team of celebrities and charity workers take on the UK Parliamentary Football Club.
Mr Winehouse, who was sponsored by friends and family to play in the game said: "I play football on Sundays for the East London Knights and was over the moon to get the chance to play at a premiership ground.
"I’m fairly lucky with my cystic fibrosis, I’ve had my ups and downs but some people my age are too ill to run around a football pitch.
"I’ve raised over £2,500 for the charity so I’m really pleased with that.”
The match was organised in an attempt to help raise awareness and funds for people with Cystic Fibrosis, which is the common life-threatening inherited disease in the UK.
MPs playing on the opposing team included Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Andy Burnham MP, Winchester MP Mark Oaten and Alistair Burt MP, Shadow Minister for Communities and Local Government.
The final score was 7-7.
