A SPIRITUAL leader is urging people to use their vote or risk seeing extremist parties gain power.
The Bishop of Barking Rt Revd David Hawkins wants all members of the public to visit the ballot box on June 4 for the European Parliament elections.
He explained: “With the ongoing news of MPs’ expenses it is understandable that people feel disenchanted with politicians at the moment, however there can be no room for complacency.
“It is often said that we get the Government we deserve. Racist parties have put up candidates across east London and Essex and, if they are elected because we have not exercised our democratic right to vote, it will be no good complaining if the wrong people get elected. By casting your vote, you can stop racist parties being elected.”
The Barking Episcopal Area covers the five East London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, together with Epping Forest, Harlow and Ongar in West Essex.
