YOUTHS on a sports course got a taste for reporting at a boxing night.
Last week saw youngsters from across the borough visited Earls Court to report on the ‘Prizefighter – The Cruiserweights’ boxing night as part of their work with Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme (LOCSP) in Leyton.
Chris Cook, 16, from Walthamstow, Nadheer Silar, 16, from Leyton, Jamie Senghore, 16, from Walthamstow, and Andrew Bontiff, 18, from Leyton were invited to conduct interviews and write reports on the action for their work with the LOCSP Media Mentoring programme.
The teenagers got close to the action in their second row media seats and witnessed Ovill ‘The Upsetter’ McKenzie scoop the £25,000 top prize to become the Prizefighter Cruiserweights Champion after an exciting night of knockdowns and shocks.
The Sky Sports-televised show featured eight fighters who had either fought for or held a European, Commonwealth or British title going up against each other in a knockout competition of three rounds of three minutes and with six knockdowns before the final, the night was full of drama.
