CONTRARY to Flash Bristow's experience in your report about the new polyclinic in Oliver Road (Guardian May 14), I found both the service and opening hours extremely helpful.
It's generally the case that you only hear about people's negative experiences since all those who received a fantastic service don't feel the need to speak to the local paper.
I have had some dreadful experiences late at night in A&E in the past thanks to aggressive drunks so the fact that this polyclinic avoids having to go through A&E and is extremely accessible with opening hours at weekend is brilliant.
I work long hours so it is almost impossible to fit in an appointment with my GP during the week.
From what I understand there has been a stampede to join or use such centres in east London so there is clearly a need.
Being able to see a GP outside of working hours is consistently highlighted as the area where patients want to see an improvement in services.
It's a real shame we are talking down what is a really valuable community service. Thankfully, people are voting with their feet.
