A STUDENT from Leytonstone was part of the street dance troupe which won ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.
Ike Ezekwugo joined urban dance group ‘Diversity’ 18 months ago and was one of 11 members to be crowned winners on the talent show, which has gained worldwide publicity.
The human resources student and the other members, who are all from Essex, won £100,000 and the chance to perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Show in December.
They will also perform their street dance style on a tour across the UK.
Diversity's choreographer Ashley Banjo told presenters Ant and Dec afterwards: "When you said our name I thought I was dreaming. Everyone who has voted, you have changed our lives.”
The group aged 12-25 have only been together since 2007 but blew the judges away with their 'transformer' dance routine.
Their name was chosen to relect their diversity in cultural backgrounds and different ages.
They beat favourite Susan Boyle in Saturday's programme and are now expected to go on and forge an illustrious showbiz career.
The group formed following the death of Sylvie Lewis, a close friend of Ashley Banjo's mum, who was well known to the whole group and lived in Leytonstone.
The family friend, in her 50s, mentored the young dancers before she lost her battle with cancer in 2006.
Mr Banjo pulled together his friends and their younger brothers to form a group to perform a show in her memory and to raise money for cancer research.
The Britain's Got Talent Grand Final was watched by the most amount of viewers in the country for five years.
A staggering 19.19 million viewers tuned into ITV1 to see Diversity win the Britain's Got Talent crown.
This is thought to be the highest ever peak audience for a reality show on British TV.
