A BREWERY received a visit from the London Convivium of Slow Food International (SFI) to praise it for producing beers ethically.

Lizzie Brodie, co-owner and joint brewer at Brodie’s Beers of Leyton received a visit last Thursday from SFI, an international movement advocating food and drink that is ethically produced and environmentally safe.

SFI representative Georgie Knight said: "We give wholehearted support to local producers like Brodie’s whose range of beers are authentic, of high quality and made by technologies that respect the environment.

"It is a small producer providing natural cask-conditioned products and sourcing from regional maltsters and hop farms.

"It also only distributes in east and central London saving on the carbon footprint. I raise my glass to its continuing success.”

Marion Robbens, liaison officer with Brodie’s for the east London and city branch (ELAC) of the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) added: “Brodie’s Beers began in August 2008 and is the first major Brewery in east London since 1979. Yet this area has a brewing tradition as notable as Burton’s.

"CAMRA will do its utmost to ensure that Lizzie and her brother, James, the co-owner, successfully revive and enhance that brewing tradition.”
