A CHINGFORD man has been charged with trying to smuggle 14 kilos of cannabis into the UK.
John Allan Corbin, 49, of Lime Grove, was nabbed by UK Border Agency officers on June 3 after the drugs were found in baggage at Birmingham International Airport.
Officers discovered the haul, worth about £40,000, after the arrival of a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Mr Corbin was charged with attempting to import 14 kilos of cannabis after being questioned by HM Revenue and Customs officers on June 4.
He was bailed to appear at Solihull Magistrates' Court on June 16.
Dawn Cartwright, Senior Investigating Officer for HMRC, said: “This latest seizure of drugs reflects the strenuous and committed efforts of dedicated teams of officers.
“We aim to protect society from drug smuggling wherever we detect it, at the borders or inland, and will not hesitate to bring individuals before the courts.”
