JEAN Lambert has been re-elected for her third term in the European Parliament.

Ms Lambert, a Walthamstow resident, stood for the Green Party, which received 10.9 per cent of the votes, an increase of 2.5 per cent, during Thursday, June 4, European Elections.

The result means she will be one of eight candidates who will represent the capital in the London constituency.

The other successful candidates in London were Charles Tannock, Syed Kamall, and Marina Yannakoudakis for the Conservatives, Claude Moraes and Mary Honeyball for Labour, Sarah Ludford for the Liberal Democrats and Gerard Batten for the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP).

It was a good result for the Conservatives, who received 27.4 per cent of the vote an increase of 0.6 per cent.

However Labour and the Liberal Democrats did not do as well as they would have liked in London.

Labour received 21.3 per cent of the vote, a decline of 3.5 per, while the Liberal Democrats received 13.7, a fall of 1.6 per cent.

It was an evening of contrasts for the British National Party (BNP) and UKIP in London.

UKIP received 10.8 per cent, a 1.6 decrease, while the BNP received 4.9 per cent, a rise of 0.9 per cent.

Independent candidate Steven Cheung, from Highams Park, received 0.3 per cent or 4,918 votes.

The turnout in London was 1,751,026.
