A CHINGFORD primary school has been granted permission to build two temporary classrooms as the school places crisis deepens.
Ainslie Wood Primary School, in Ainslie Wood Road, was given the go-ahead at the council's planning meeting on June 9.
A new portacabin housing the two classrooms will be put in place on the school site for a period of three years.
A report presented to members of the planning committee said: “Children's services are experiencing considerable pressure to provide enough school places in a number of primary and secondary schools across the borough to meet population projections.”
The report added that the need for extra space was exacerbated by the borough's transient population, including migrant worker families and those moving into new housing schemes.
Up to 250 extra reception places are needed for children starting school in the borough in September, and 3,760 places are needed by 2012 – the equivalent of 140 classrooms.
