A WALTHAMSTOW school has been given a special award by Arts Council England.
Willowfield School, in Clifton Avenue, was given an Artsmark Silver award, recognising its “commitment to, and excellence in, arts education”.
Eve Wilson, headteacher at Willowfield, said: “I’m delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Willowfield’s dynamic arts education programme.
“Our students have really enjoyed working with a wide range of professionals to further develop their skills.”
Artsmark began in 2000 and rewards schools for dedicating a minimum of 10 per cent of their curriculum to the arts.
To receive a silver award, schools must dedicate at least 12 per cent to the arts and 15 per cent to receive a gold award.
Moira Sinclair, executive director for Arts Council England in London, added: “The award recognises Willowfield’s passion for the arts and belief in the power of creativity.
“We believe that the earlier children are creatively inspired, the more likely they are to have a lifelong engagement with art. Arts Council England is pleased to be working with schools to help raise children’s aspirations and support the artists of the future.”
