A STUDENT who was attacked by an armed gang in his own home has described the moment he thought the teenage robbers were going to kill him.

Rizwan Waqeel, 28, who is studying hotel management at the University of Greenwich, was returning to his bedsit in Hoe Street after visiting a friend's house when two teenagers asked him the time.

He replied but they then followed him to the door of his home, close to the junction with Daventry Avenue.

They told him they were visiting one of the men who live in one of the other two flats in the building, and he let them into the house.

But as Mr Waqeel was entering his own flat, four teenagers pushed him over, locked the door, beat him and demanded he hand over his valuables.

He said: “They said they were drug dealers, that they kidnap and murder people and I had to give them everything.

“I emptied my pockets, gave them £430, my laptop and mobile.”

The gang then demanded Mr Waqeel hand over his passport, but he refused.

He said: “I grabbed a chair and hit one of them with it, but then he got a revolver out of his pocket and put it against my head.

“I just thought there was no way I was not going to be killed.”

But brave Mr Waqeel somehow managed to push the robbers away and jump out of a first floor window, injuring his leg.

He hobbled away in the direction of Walthamstow Central, and was pushed over by two of the robbers in Queens Road.

Mr Waqeel, who was treated for cuts, bruises and a swollen foot, has been left “shocked” and deeply upset by the ordeal.

He is however, determined to return to his work for a hotel operator this week.

Mr Waqeel has no idea who the robbers are, although he has seen one of them in the area before.

He believes one of them may have seen him earlier open his wallet to pay for fast food in a nearby chicken shop, so they knew he had a substantial amount of money on him.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw Mr Waqeel being pushed over in Queens Road shortly after 5pm on June 7.

The four robbers were all Asian and aged between 15 and 19 years old.

One was wearing a light grey t-shirt, black trousers and had a short beard.

Another was wearing a black sleeveless t-shirt and black trousers, while a third was wearing a black hooded top and black trousers.

The fourth robber was wearing a black t-shirt and black trousers.
