HOE street councillor Naz Sarkar has been chosen as Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate for Reading West.
The 33-year-old was selected ahead of seven other candidates, including Reading borough councillor councillor Paul Gittings.
Sitting Labour MP Martin Salter, who won with a majority of 4,682, is stepping down at the next election.
Cllr Sarkar, who was previously unsuccesful in a bid to stand for Labour in south London, currently works as a maths teacher at a school near Reading.
He was sacked as cabinet member for the arts over his handling of un3popular cuts at the world-famous William Morris gallery in Walthamstow.
