A FLOOD watch alert has been issued for the Nazeing Brook by the Environment Agency after heavy rain was predicted for this evening.

The area at risk is thought to be between Nazeing Mead and Lower Nazeing.

Flood Incident Management Team Leader Lee James said: "While we are not currently anticipating property flooding from rivers, we are urging everyone to be aware of the possible risk of localised flooding in some areas.

"Our staff have been out checking flood defences and clearing culverts of any debris to allow them to cope with the forecast heavy rainfall. We are monitoring the situation closely and gangs have been out at a number of sites clearing trash screens in the capital.

"We want to remind people that any flood water can be dangerous, and they should not try to walk or drive through flood water. We will continue to monitor the situation as rain spreads across the area this evening."
