ONGAR FLOWER CLUB REPORT - JUNE 2009 FLOWERS were on the Catwalk when Ione Woodger-Smith came to demonstrate at the June meeting.
Roses were top of her list and beautiful pink ones matching her container, were teemed with green cala lilies with purple throats and lime alchemilla mollis.
A silver bowl held a modern arrangement of red anthuriums and a red gerbera with stems of snake grass bent to enclosed space within the design.
Arching stems of Solomon’s seal gave flowing lines to the next arrangement with eryngiums, alchemilla mollis, red spray carnations and a green chrysanthemum.
An aspidistra leaf was threaded with steel grass for extra detail.
A bright pink woven collar, balanced on a glass container draped and filled with mauve fabric held the next design.
Height was achieved with the red bells of a delicate allium, mauve stocks and lilac pussy willow.
Lilies, peonies, and gerbera, all in pink, filled the base.
A twiggy frame decorated with beads formed the backdrop for Ione’s next design.
Against this, dusky pink roses, green carnations, alchemilla mollis, white lilies and white anthuriums with a pink edge were arranged.
Some stems were fixed to the frame with strings of beads and a small parasol covered in lime green sisal completed the picture.
The final design was on a miniature dressing table.
An inverted triangle made from twigs was filled with zebra grass and white lilies.
Lime foliage and large dark leaves were mingled with white roses and yellow gerbera at the base.
Before the arrangements were raffled, Joan Andrews thanked Ione for an enjoyable evening.
The next meeting is on Tuesday July 7 at 7.30pm at Great Stony Hall, Ongar.
Jonathan Ray-Dobson will talk on ‘A Trip Down the Nile. Visitors welcome.
