FIVE ambitious business students have been rewarded for developing “employability skills” by the Ministry of Defence’s Education Outreach Programme.
The students from Sir George Monoux College, in Chingford Road, Walthamstow, joined other college students from across London to take part in the prestigious award ceremony at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Whitehall on Monday, June 8.
The students were Wajid Abbas, Abbas Hanif, Saima Hussain, Moyo Olomu and Muhammed Seif, who share told the audience, which included Sir Bill Jeffrey KCB, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and other key speakers, about how the employer-related skills workshops had helped their skills.
Student, Abbas Hanif, said “The outstanding contribution from The Ministry of Defence Education Outreach Programme has helped prepare students, like myself, for employment.
“The programme was inspiring, especially the interview skills workshops, which enabled me to secure a paid internship this summer with Lloyds TSB Bank.”
Andy Gillman MBE, Head of Education Outreach Programme, Ministry of Defence, said: “The Education Outreach Programme has been running for eight years across many London further education colleges and supports in excess of over two thousand students every year.
“The students at Sir George Monoux College show real enthusiasm and passion to learn and it is a pleasure to be part of driving their ambition for success”.
