AN OLYMPIC gold medallist will be presenting 50 students with certificates at an awards ceremony next week.
Tessa Sanderson CBE , who has competed in six Olympic Games, will be giving a ten-minute address and meeting the Redbridge College’s top students as part of the evening’s celebrations, which take place on Thursday, June 25.
The evening will also include a short film made by the Chadwell Heath-based college’s media students, a performance by music students and refreshments made and served by hospitality and catering students.
Tessa has competed in six Olympic Games, which is a record in itself. During her 26 years competing for Great Britain, she was voted Sports Personality of the Year once and Athlete of the Year three times.
She is the only female athlete to win a throwing medal for Great Britain, has also won three gold medals in the Commonwealth Games, as well her 1984 Olympic Gold for javelin.
She was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2004 for her services to Sport England, where she served as Vice-Chairman from 1999 to 2005.
