POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after a man was left seriously injured in a crash between a car and a motorbike.

The smash, in Broadmead Road, Woodford Green, resulted in a severe leg injury for the 39-year-old driver of the bike, who had to be rushed to hospital.

He has since been discharged.

Residents in the area recently launched a campaign for traffic calming measures in the busy road, and have warned it is "only a matter of time" before someone is killed in a crash there.

A total of 70 people have signed a petition demanding Redbridge Council take action to combat the problem of motorists breaking the street's 30mph limit.

The council have said they will look into the issue.

However no evidence has been made available to suggest either vehicle was speeding in this case.

Police said the car involved in the crash was a Zuzuki Swift, but they have not provided any details of the motorbike.

Any witnesses to the incident, which happened at 6.14pm on Tuesday May 19, should call 020 7230 9870.

A police spokeswoman said their enquiries were on-going.
