WOODFORD Bridge and Wanstead Grove are among 81 conservation areas in London at risk of losing their unique character, Englsih heritage has warned.
The organisation said the areas are threatened by neglect, decay or damaging change.
Wanstead Grove was designated a conservation area in March.
Nearly one in five conservation areas in the capital are on the list, which details places which have deteriorated in the last three years, or are at risk of doing so in the next three years.
The main problems listed are:
• plastic windows and doors
• poorly maintained roads and pavements
• street clutter
• loss of garden walls, fences and hedges
• satelite dishes •
The effect of traffic calming measures
• alterations to the fronts, roofs and chimneys of buildings
• unsympathetic extensions
