A PRIMARY school found a novel way of keeping its pupils entertained when it held a special book week.
Leverton Junior School, in Honey Lane, Waltham Abbey, chose a different author for each of its year groups with the children encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters to get into the spirit of things.
With The Brothers Grimm, Roald Dahl, Hans Christian Andersen and Paul Jennings among the writers on offer, colourful attire was guaranteed and the celebrations continued with songs and performances from novels written by the chosen authors.
Pupils also made cakes, drinks and boomerangs, and CDs to sell.
Headteacher Louise Martin said: “The Special Week allowed the children to have learning experiences outside the constraints of the national curriculum. It was lovely to see the children become immersed in their world of their chosen author.”
