THE BNP was beaten into sixth place in London with just five per cent of the vote in the European elections a couple of weeks ago.

They did not secure any seats in London. Londoners know that voting in protest for BNP can result in them winning a seat – as seen in the GLA elections.

I am delighted that the most diverse, tolerant capital in the world will not be represented in Europe by the fascist politics of hate and division. Well done to Stella Creasy, Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Walthamstow, and colleagues who campaigned hard to get the message across in Waltham Forest, that the BNP is only interested in inciting racial hatred.

We need to mobilise the largest possible mass movement against the BNP to drive them out of the political mainstream. We have to challenge their lies about immigrants and Muslims, reject their attempts to pose as a legitimate political voice, and expose their leaders as hardened racists and Nazis.

We have defeated fascism before – in the 1930s, when people rose up against Mosley’s Blackshirts, and in the 1970s when the Anti-Nazi League defeated the National Front. Now we have to inflict the same defeat on the BNP.
