Winner of five Tony Awards and last seen in London at The Donmar in 1996, Nine: The Musical has arrived at the Ye Old Rose and Crown Theatre Pub, Walthamstow, for a limited run.
Presented by All Star Productions, the hit musical focuses on the endeavours of film director Guido Contini as he tries to devise a plot for his new film while being pursued by hordes of beautiful women while simultaneously struggling to face up to his 40th birthday.
Set in Venice in the ‘60s, Guido finds himself entangling in a web of romantic difficulties as a series of flashbacks reveal the substance of his life, which will become the material for his next film – a musical version of the Casanova story.
Directed by Ricky Dukes, with musical direction from Aaron Clingham, Alvaro Flores will star as the Italian filmmaker and lead a cast of nine actresses, who will be supported by a magnificent 10-piece orchestra.
Originally performed on Broadway in 1982, Nine: The Musical was based on on Federico Fellini’s classic autobiographical film 8½ with a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The production starred Raúl Juliá as Guido and was named best musical at the Tony Awards.
