INVESTIGATORS have renewed an appeal for witnesses to a collision involving a police car which killed a pensioner.
Brian Elton, 72, of Endlebury Road, Chingford, died four hours after being struck by the car yards from his home in the Ridgeway, Chingford, shortly before 1pm on Saturday (June 20).
The Independent Police Complaints Commission found the car, which was responding to a call from London Ambulance Service, was travelling at an acceptable speed with its lights and siren on.
The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) is now investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Witnesses are asked to call DPS officers on 020 8785 8738.
Mr Elton served his national services at Porton Down Ministry of Defence research facility, where hundreds were gassed in the 1950s.
He received compensation last year after years of campaigning.
