A UNIVERSITY of East London (UEL) lecturer has won a prestigious £10,000 fellowship for her teaching methods.

Dr Christina Draganova, a senior computing and engineering lecturer, will be given a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy, it was announced yesterday.

She won the award for her “innovative use of mobile technologies” and for providing her students with opportunities to work with industry professionals.

Dr Draganova said: ““My primary aim is to help all of my students to become independent learners and to take responsibility for their own studies, which is particularly important in the constantly changing area of computing, where students need to be prepared to meet the challenges of future developments.”

Dr Draganova has also for the last 12 years co-ordinated an international mathematics competition, which attracts students from 53 different countries.

She will receive £10,000 for professional development in teaching and writing.
