RESIDENTS say they are bitterly disappointed that Funky Mojoes will continue trading as usual while they appeal against a second decision to reduce their opening hours.
After a stormy meeting at Ilford Town Hall yesterday (Thursday), Redbridge's Licensing Sub Committee ruled to cut the controversial bar's hours to 1am on weekends and midnight on weekdays.
But after the case was sent back for review following a meeting that ended in the same conclusion in November, the busy venue in South Woodford High Road will appeal again.
Sandy Kapp, whose mother Paula, 84, lives next door to the venue in the Manor Court Lodge retirement flats, left the chamber in tears after giving evidence.
She said: "My mum is in the final year of her life and I can't believe Redbridge Council and the club have allowed her to suffer the way she has."
After the decision she added: "I'm despairing about the fact that they're appealing.
"I am bitterly disappointed as my mum is getting weaker and weaker.
"I don't know how she will cope."
Video evidence, that seemed to show drunken arguments, a man repeatedly kicking a car and a mass brawl outside the pub, was played before the committee.
But manager of the anti social behaviour team Alan Drake said: "I think it is probably being run as well as any other licensed premises in the borough, and certainly no worse."
Applicant for the review Barry Van Loen from Tempus Court said: "There has been the glassing, the shooting of a doorman by someone who wasn't allowed in, and fights that have reached the national news.
"These are not fictitious events and anti-social behaviour and criminal behaviour is still happening."
Solicitor advocate for Funky Mojoes David Dadds, accused the opposition of lying about events.
He said: "We don't deny that incidents have happened and things will happen from time to time at any licensed premises.
"What matters is that they are managed quickly and correctly and it can't be proved that every incident complained of comes from us or is even genuine.
