A woman was followed along Courtney Place after getting off a train at St James Street station at around 1.15am.

The attacker is described as a tanned white man, of Spanish or Italian appearance, aged between 30 and 40. He has short, dark receding hair and was wearing a black shirt, dark blue jeans and black shoes.

Detective Constable Zoe Graham of Chingford CID, said: "I would advise women walking alone late at night, to remain vigilant."

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity and who may have seen this assault, to come forward.”

The attack happened on Saturday, June 13.

The partially-clothed body of Ms Samaraweera was discovered by a passerby on May 30. DNA evidence has linked the killer with two other rapes nearby this year.
