HEALTH authorities are warning that swine flue may have spread even further, as a student at Wanstead High School awaits test results.
If confirmed, the latest case at the school in Redbridge Lane West would bring the total in the borough to 11.
Last week, six children were taken ill with the potentially fatal virus at Wells Primary School in Woodford Green, with a further two at Snaresbrook Primary and Woodbridge High.
Two adults, thought to live in the Ilford area, were also treated with the antidote tamiflu back in may.
NHS Redbridge is urging people to find a ‘flu friend’ who can pick up medication on their behalf should they become ill, as they advise residents to stay at home until they recover.
Prescriptions will be given over the phone for anyone with symptoms similar to seasonal flu, including fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing and a sore throat.
Vomiting and diarrhoea have also been experienced.
The public is reminded not to visit GP surgeries if they feel ill but ring so a quick diagnosis can be made over the phone.
Alternatively, they can ring the national swine flu helpline on 0800 1 531531 or NHS Direct on 0845 46 47.
