REDBRIDGE residents have proven themselves to be green by smashing recycling targets for the second year running.
The council has extended a big thank you as objectives were beaten again for 2008/2009, with 27.5 per cent of all household waste staying away from landfill.
A spokesman for the council said: “By achieving this shows more residents than ever are recycling more instead of binning waste.
"Recycling offers all sorts of benefits including saving energy, conserving resources, protecting the environment as well as reducing landfill sites."
Residents can recycle glass bottles and jars, tins and cans, plastic bottles (no yoghurt pots or plastic trays) and paper (including envelopes, brochures, newspapers and yellow pages) straight from their front door.
Residents who would like a free recycling box can telephone: 8554 5000 or email: recycling@redbridge.gov.uk
