THE SIKH community have pumped £4,000 into worthy causes after saddling up for a 17-mile Charity Challenge bike ride.
Around 80 people showed up bright and early at in front of Sainsbury's in Ilford, along with former mayor of Redbridge Loraine Sladden and community leaders for the tenth annual event.
Ninety-six-year-old marathon runner Fauja Singh also ran the route along with his team.
The event, which was organised by local volunteers, the London Cycling Campaign, Gurdwaras and local councillors and businesses, raised £4,000 which was distributed amongst the mayor’s three charities and The Rhys Daniels Trust.
The ride also celebrated Vaisakhi, which is the Sikh New Year, and Dhol players from the Dhol Academy added a festive feel to the day.
A cheque presentation ceremony was held at Ramgharia Temple, Forest Gate, on June 20.
