FROM Bollywood to belly dancing, acoustic guitar to hip hop, Chingford’s Spirit of the Dance Fesitval will be simply overflowing with local talent next Sunday.

Taking place in Ridgeway Park, the free community festival, which runs from 2pm-7pm, will feature two stages, one for dance groups and another for the best in new and unsigned music talent.

Festival artistic director Dee Curtis, who is founder of the dance studio Red Onion, tells me: “There is so much talent in Waltham Forest and with the success of Big Dance 2008 we are now able to develop a springboard for the local talent to showcase their skills alongside professional dance theatre, performers and musicians.”

Up-and-coming London girl group The Elody will headline the Discovery Acoustic Stage, with other performances coming from East London singer/songwriter Jay and the Waltham Forest Guitar and Saxophone Group among others; while the Dance Stage will include street dance from Spirit Dance Crew, parkour from Keibatsu, African dance from 247 Afrika!, belly dance from Leyton resident Dina, and a set from the winners of the Waltham Forest School Dance Competition 09, Tom Hood School’s S.O.X.
