A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked with acid and stabbed in the back.
Police in are appealing for information and witnesses following the attack, which took place in Marchant Road at about 2am.
The victim, 24, was walking along the road when he was approached by a group.
They then threw a noxious liquid over him, causing serious burns to his face and chest, before stabbing him twice in the back.
The gang were reportedly wearing masks and gloves so that they would not be burned with the acid.
He managed to escape his attackers and raise the alarm and an ambulance was called.
If he survives, it is feared he could lose his sight.
