VAMPIRES, dragons, monsters and other mythological creatures will be roaming through Waltham Forest- in an animated film created by schoolchildren to be shown on Walthamstow's big screen.

Year 10 pupils from Heathcote, Willowfield and Leytonstone schools created their own colourful creatures as part of a project run by Youth Arts and Animation (YAA).

Professional artist Lee Gould showed the pupils how to turn their creations into moving pictures.

Tanyel Ahmet, art and design teacher at Heathcote, said: “It was great for the pupils to work with a successful artist.

“And the fact that it was on computers was useful as these are the skills artists need in the 21st century.

“The pupils enjoyed it as it was a bit different, the boys especially liked it as it was different to most art lessons.”

Each student was taught how to create a four second moving sequence.

Mr Gould has edited the sequences into one film, to be shown in the town square next Friday at 6pm and throughout the following week.

Ms Ahmet said: “We will be there with our popcorn for the premiere, the pupils are really excited.”

YAA specialises in working with children to produce artwork, animations and short films.
