HUNDREDS of sporty students across the borough have taken part in a wide range of exciting games as part of a week-long event to encourage youngsters to get fit.
National School Sports Week saw cycling, athletics and a host of other fun activities between last Monday and Friday, and culminated in a mass event at the Redbridge Sports Centre on Friday (July 3).
There 200 eight-to-nine-year-olds from across Redbridge took part in a variety of track and field events, including everything from running to circus skills.
And despite being hit by bouts of swine flu, pupils at Snaresbrook and Woodbridge also took part in a variety of sports 'taster' events at their schools.
Cllr Alan Weinberg, the council's cabinet member for leisure, said: “Redbridge is proud to be taking part is National School Sports Week as it gets ready for the London Olympics in 2012.
“The Olympic Games are inspiring children and young people to increase physical activity and adopt healthier lifestyles, and the games offer a fantastic chance for residents of all ages to embrace the Olympic message and take part in more sport.”
A council spokesman added: "The aim of the week was to excite and motivate pupils to do more sport."
