TWO student films have been shortlisted in a national competition.

Five films made by students on the Vision and Focus 12 course at Waltham Forest College, in Forest Road, Walthamstow, were entered in the ESSA Manifesto for Change Film Competition.

The competition invited 11-19 year olds to make three-minute films outlining suggestions of how to change the educational system.

The two shortlisted films will be screened at the Channel 4 Studios on Friday evening, where the winners will be announced.

The overall winners will have their films shown on Channel 4 and will have a day working in the media industry.

Shaniece Allen, Luke Harding Park and Kasim Sinclair produced 'Future of Education' and Tom Bffoni, Charlie LeRendu, Giles Chavanakunakorn and Kamron Khan produced 'Future Schools'.

Miss Allen said: “I have enjoyed this experience. Getting through to the finals is such a dream come true.”

Programme lecturer Pritty Rana said: “I am so proud of the students, and how hard they worked together in planning and actually producing these films.”

The students had to select a category, brainstorm ideas, plan the storyboard for a short film and finally pitched their ideas to the staff 'producers'.

Five of the seven groups made successful pitches and spent a week getting used to the video equipment, practising, filming and editing their short films.
