CUSTOMERS and staff from a Chingford pub raised thousands of pounds for a children's hospice by taking part in a sponsored cycle ride.

The group of 53 from the Kings Ford pub, the Obelisk and Stoppals Wine Bar in Chingford Mount, cycled from Chingford to Broxbourne, along the River Lea tow path, and back, a total distance of 25 miles, for Haven House in Woodford Green.

The cyclists raised in the region of £5,000.

The event took place on Sunday, July 5 and was organised by plumber Chris Partridge.

Cycles Direct in Chingford Mount Road allowed participants to borrow bikes and carried out repairs.

Gareth Hearne, the Kings Ford manager, said: “It was a wonderful community event and everyone who took part had a fantastic day. Well done to them all.”

Pub regular Rob Hobbs collected the most cash, raising £2,000.
