The first Theydon Garnon Scouts are hoping that the district council will give them the go ahead for a brand new home to replace their old hut.

The scouts have been in their current home in Flux's Lane, Epping since 1965.

The former army hut was transported piece by piece from Chester and put together by various parents and friends.

Now after many faithful years of service the building is in dire need of repair, and is too small for the growing group, which has children waiting to join the 60-strong troupe.

The new plans are for a single main hall and smaller meeting room, which will be used by various community groups.

They are due to be discussed by the Epping Forest District planning committee next month.

That's when Chairman of the Theydon Garnon Group, Mr Trevor King says the hard work really begins.

He said: "“It's going to cost hundreds of thousands, we did get some funding from the County Council, but that just covered the Architects plans, so we're going to be busy doing lots of fundraising.”

“The kids are really excited, they've all seen the plans, and are looking forward to it. They like the plans because it means having a slightly bigger hall, so there's more room to run around in.”

“We think of it as a nice way to celebrate our 50th anniversary”
