A WALTHAM Forest charity has received a special grant from Awards for All at the Big Lottery Fund.
The Waltham Forest Dyslexia Assocation (WFDA) is set to benefit from more than £4,000 to fund an awareness event on October 10.
Adele Bird, chair of the WFDA, said: “This is an important acknowledgement of the work we do and it will allow us to enlarge the scope and scale of our Awareness Day.
“We can now offer presentations by top professionals in the field and a crèche and children’s activity programme, which provides important support for visiting parents and carers.”
This event is also intended to be a resource for teachers and also for employers to help them understand dyslexia.
Speakers will include British Dyslexia Association chair Margaret Malpas and John Mackenzie, a specialist in employment law and disability discrimination.
A range of information will be available about support and technology designed to help people to cope with dyslexia.
Visitors can also sign up for screening sessions, which can be the first step to determining whether someone has the condition.
