CARNATIONS, pinks and strawberry jam were among the impressive displays on offer at Buckhurst Hill Horticultural Society's annual summer show.
This year's event, at the Centenary Hall of St John’s Church, in Buckhurst Hill High Road, was particularly eagerly awaited after the spring show had to be cancelled to make way for the funeral of reality TV celebrity Jade Goody.
Among this year's winners, first place prizes included Len Pye for his display of five carnations, Neil Pegrum for his bush fuchsia, and Brenda Bailes for her victoria sponge.
In the Junior category Rose Compton took first place with her pasta flower picture.
Visitors had the option of buying plants on show, or simply visiting the tea room for refreshments Horticultural society chairwoman Maureen Briggs said: “It was a good show, very colourful with several hundred visitors enjoying the afternoon after having to cancel the spring show"
The society's autumn show will take place on Saturday, September 12. For further information call 020 8504 3238.
