The students were given the Jack Petchey Achievement Award and a cheque for £200 for new school equipment in a ceremony in Waltham Abbey Town Hall.
The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up to help develop potential in young people aged 11-25 in London and Essex.
The winners, from various schools, colleges and volunteering organisations were rewarded for their work in mentoring youngsters and fundraising for charity.
Groups from King Harold School, Davenant Foundation School, Debden Park High School, Epping Forest College and Voluntary Action Epping Forest were all recognised.
All the winners had been nominated by peers and teachers, and were invited to a presentation evening on July 7, where Epping Forest District Council Chairman Penny Smith handed out the awards.
Cllr Smith said: "This has been a fabulous evening, real headline grabbing stuff. A very special occasion, a lasting memory and something to cherish.
"It’s not about being the best but about doing your best that matters."
