THE future of the capital's stroke and trauma provision will be decided next week after a London-wide consultation.

NHS Redbridge and primary care trusts from across the capital will consider the 11,000 strong feedback and decide how and where services, which could save thousands of lives a year, will be based.

The favoured proposals are four major trauma centres which patients could reach by ambulance within 45 minutes from anywhere in the capital.

The consultation also proposed eight new hyper acute stroke units in London where all stroke patients would be treated during the critical first 72 hours of care.

Queens Hospital is one of eight proposed locations which would be supported by one of 20 stroke units to provide rehabilitation.

Thousand of Londoners suffer major trauma every year ,including serious car accidents, knife and gunshot wounds, head injuries and loss of limbs, while stroke is the second highest cause of death in the capital and most common cause of adult disability.
