PLANS for a new bus lane in a busy Woodford Green street have been unveiled by the council.
The 130-metre-long zone, earmarked for the westbound junction of Broadmead Road alongside the Green, is designed to combat the problem of long delays suffered by 275 buses in the area during rush hour.
If the proposals are approved by the council's area two committee next Tuesday (July 21) and pass a public consultation exercise, the lane will become operational between 7am and 10am every Monday to Friday.
The council estimates that the scheme will cost £10,000, but all funding will be provided by Transport for London (TfL).
According to council documents: "The proposed bus lane would improve bus journey times in the AM peak period when traffic queues exist at the signal junction.
"General traffic would not be adversely affected by the adjacent bus lane as the lane has been designed to end at an adequate distance from the stopline to minimise any loss of capacity through the junction.
"In addition, the provision of a dedicated bus stop cage and supporting waiting restrictions will improve accessibility of buses at the stop."
