MORE than 250 former friends of Redbridge Jewish Community Centre attended an emotional reunion to mark the Woodford Green charity's 40th birthday.
Richard Stone, the centre Manager, hailed the event as a “huge success and fantastic evening” and over £3,300 was raised, with the proceeds going towards Redbridge JCC and St Francis Hospice.
The event, held in memory of the former member Saul Keene, who passed away in June last year and was regarded by many as “the heart of the centre”, playing a huge part for more than 30 years.
A dedicated area in memory of Saul, blessed by local Rabbi Alex Chapper was opened in the centre’s youth section area in an emotional and touching ceremony with family and friends.
Saul's brother Danny said: “It felt very fitting to have the event in memory of Saul.
"He was a dedicated member, volunteer and employee of the centre, which was in his DNA, he was part of the furniture and truly loved it here.”
