AN investigation has concluded into how a man died after being restrained by police.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have prepared a report examining the events surrounding the death of Ricky Penfold, 45, of Woodford Green.

But an IPCC spokeswoman said that the findings will not be made public until after an inquest into the cause of his death, to be held on October 1.

The father-of-three was restrained by police on October 23 last year, in Hale End Road, Highams Park, after witnesses had reported seeing him headbutting car windows and blood pouring from a cut on his head.

Police tracked him to a nearby house and found him in the back garden.

According to police, he ran towards officers and was then restrained.

Officers then noticed he had stopped breathing and tried to resuscitate him before an ambulance arrived.

He died three days later at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

Mr Penfold's daughters told the Guardian that he was 'the best dad' and that he was a funny and loving family man.
