A WOMAN who has worked tirelessly for her community has had her name planted in flowers in Chingford.
Florrie Bedwell, 77, was chosen because of her willingness to help neighbours and fund raise for local causes.
She was nominated by prospective parliamentary candidate for Walthamstow, Stella Creasy.
“Florrie is always helping her neighbours, both at her local church and in the wider community – whether cleaning up the gardens, making tea for fundraisers or simply looking after others. She is well loved and a local hero,” said Ms Creasy.
Ms Bedwell is chairwoman of her tenant area forum, which deals with housing issues, chairwoman of the Friends of Lea Bridge Library Gardens and a member of her local policing panel.
Artist Joshua Sofaer has created this project called 'Rooted in the Earth' to honour local unsung heroes.
The flower arrangements will honour a local hero in each of the five Olympic host boroughs – Waltham Forest, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich.
Ms Bedwell's floral display was unveiled at The Ridgeway Park in Chingford on Monday, July 13.
Chris Robbins, council leader, said: “It's fabulous to see Florrie's commitment and dedication recognised in this way.
“'Rooted in the Earth' is a fantastic way for us to celebrate the most basic of Olympic ideals – to contribute to our communities and to support our fellow citizens.”
Mr Sofaer was the joint winner of the Bank of America Create Art Award, a participatory art prize combining the five host boroughs which attracted the support of the Whitechapel Art Gallery.
He is known for the Scavenger Hunt, which challenges participants to find items on an odd ball shopping list against the clock, which was performed at the Edinburgh Festival.
