DRUGS officers with sniffer dogs went on patrol at a busy railway station to tackle substance abuse and assaults.

Members of Mayfield, Chadwell and Goodmayes Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs) organised a passive drugs dog operation at Seven Kings Station between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday.

Eight SNT police officers, 12 community support officers, two dog handlers, three British Transport Police Officers and ticket guards were present throughout the day.

Forty people were stopped with 12 detained and one woman arrested for possession of a class A drug. A 17-year-old boy was given street bail for possession of a class B substance.

Sergeant Katy Hawkes said “I think the operation was a great success and will definitely be organising more for the future”
