RUNNING five marathons in five days was simply not enough of a challenge for one 60 year-old charity fundraiser, who has now vowed to complete an even tougher test - rowing 100km in one go.

Father-of-two Daniel Dancygier lost more than two stone during the incredible 210km feat, which raised more than £3,000 for University College Hospital London, where his wife Rosalind was treated for cancer before her death two years ago.

That would have been more than enough for most people, but Mr Dancygier, of Somerset Close, South Woodford - who earned the nickname the ‘Crazy Frenchman’ during his epic run - has already started training for his next fundraising challenge.

He now plans to row more than 60 miles during a staggering 10 hour session at Virgin Active Gym in Chigwell in a bid to raise even more cash for the hospital.

He said: “I know it must seem to people that I am crazy, but I’m really not, I just like to set myself goals.

“I didn’t really suffer too many physical problems during the five marathons, apart from losing a couple of toenails.

“I’m already doing 10km rows twice a day at the gym, and I think I’ll be up to speed with a couple of months.”

The former banker, who now runs his own wine tasting company, said he was determined to raise money for the hospital because of the ‘wonderful’ treatment his wife received there during her battle with mouth cancer.

He said: “I was so grateful for all the support people gave me during and after the run, and to the Guardian for helping to publicise it.

“I would love it if people would now agree to sponsor me during the row even if it’s just a small donation.

“Even one pound given from the heart, is worth as much as a big sum in my view.

“I’ve had lots of support from people at the gym. Young people have come up to me and said ‘respect’ and older people have said ‘you are a legend,’ which is nice.”

Mr Dancygier, who runs his own wine tasting business, has promised to give a bottle of his best pink champagne to his most generous donor once he has completed the row in October.
