A Premier League star has become an ambassador for his former school.

Curtis Davies, former Rush Croft Sports College student and Aston Villa defender, has agreed to be an ambassador for the Rush Croft Football Academy, which is starting in September 2010 for 16 to 18 year olds.

Mr Davies visited the school in Rushcroft Road, Chingford, to hold an assembly for Year 8 students on 'aspirations'.

During the assembly, the footballer answered numerous questions from students on life as a Premier League player at Aston Villa, before going on a tour of the school and meeting many of his former teachers.

Headteacher Patricia Cutler said: "We're all so proud of everything Curtis has achieved and were delighted to welcome him back to school today."

Mr Davies finished his visit by signing autographs for very excited Rush Croft students.

His former PE Teacher Lawrence Ashworth said: "It is wonderful to see someone of Curtis' standing coming back to the school.

"He was a terrific role model when he was a student and now has become a role model of national significance."

Mr Davies said: "I think the idea of the Football Academy at Rush Croft Sports College is great. I wish it was here when I attended.

"I'm sure the community will benefit from this."
