ARMED police officers shot a man this morning believed to have been involved in an earlier shooting.
At about 2.40am today in Elmore Road, Leytonstone, police stopped a car, thought to be carrying a man involved in an earlier shooting.
During the stop and search, CO19 armed officers shot a 28-year-old man.
He is currently in Whipps Cross University Hospital in a non-life threatening condition.
The incident followed an argument between two men at 2.15am today in Abbots Park Road, Leyton, when two further men became involved.
The dispute resulted in a 29-year-old man being shot.
The victim left the scene on foot and is in hospital in a non-life threatening condition.
Witnesses reported hearing several shots being fired, and two cars speeding off from the scene.
The witnesses called police who attended.
Twenty minutes later, armed officers stopped the car in Elmore Road.
Then at 3.45am another car was stopped by police in Langthorne Road, Leytonstone.
A 27-year-old man was arrested and is in custody at an east London police station.
Police are appealing for anyone with information or who saw something to call police on 8733 4774, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A loaded gun was discovered by police during the stops.
The Department of Professional Standards and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have been informed.
